The Worship Committee assists the pastors and music director in creating a variety of worship experiences that comfort, uplift, teach, challenge, and empower diverse worshippers to live as God’s ambassadors. What we do 1. Provide worship resources 2. Serve as a sounding board and creative support for the pastor in planning worship services 3. Schedule ushers, liturgists, and communion preparers and servers 4. Provide for the audio recording of services 5. Provide support for music ministry 6. Maintain worship and music budget 7. Help to create a worship environment that enhances the worship experience How we do it The Worship Committee uses the following activities as a guide. New ideas are welcomed for ways to serve the evolving mission of Memorial UCC and changing needs and interests of the Congregation. At least annually, the Committee reviews and refines its mission and activities. The Council liaison keeps Church Council informed of the work of the Committee. 1. Worship resources: Provide and maintain worship resources, including bulletins; hymnals; candles; communion cups; communion bread, wine and grape juice; pew pads; offering plates; worship-planning resources. 2. Sounding board and creative support: Serve as sounding board for ideas and issues relating to worship services; provide support for the pastor in planning worship services. 3. Scheduling: Prepare and distribute schedules for ushers, liturgists, and communion preparers and servers (obtain list of volunteers from Membership Committee). 4. Media: Arrange for audio recording of worship services for distribution to shut-ins, and for making available on the Memorial UCC website. This includes provision of supplies for taping and scheduling for people responsible for media each Sunday. 5. Music ministry: Purchase and maintain resources for the music program. Budget for piano tuning; handbell refurbishing; music for choral groups, children’s choir, handbells and instrumentalists; music equipment, such as music stands and folders; and substitute pianist. 6. Budget: In the fall, prepare budget and activity report for inclusion in annual church budget and report. 7. Worship environment: Throughout the liturgical year, help to create a worship environment that enhances the worship experience. Utilizing a variety of materials, try to create visual representations of or enhancements to worship and seasonal themes. This may include seasons of the year (Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, Ordinary Time), important days in the life of the church (Rally Day, World Communion Day), particular events (church anniversaries, stewardship campaign), or Scriptural themes. |
