A vibrant part of our life as a congregation is exploring our faith, learning about our world, sharing the insights and knowledge that each of us bring to any group. Here are some of the things that are happening or coming up.

Exploring the Way
Many of us wish we had a deeper relationship with God, that we knew better how to pray and had time to devote to our spiritual side.  “Exploring the Way” is a seven-session program that explores questions and issues of faith in a non-threatening, small-group atmosphere.  We will learn more about prayer, scripture, our images of God and more through seven 2-hour meetings with weekly reading and journaling.

The first meeting of the series will be in the Youth Room at Memorial UCC on Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 6:30 p.m.  The group will meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. through March 24 (we will not meet on Ash Wednesday, which is Feb. 17). The cost of the book for the program is $12.

Ellen Reuter, a certified spiritual director, was trained in 2003 in leading groups in the Companions in Christ series and has been doing these kinds of groups for the last seven years. Books for Discussion on a Winter Night
A number of folks who were in the discussion groups for The Faith Club said they wished they could keep going on another book. We will pick another common book for the fall, but folks who would like to organize around a book or movie for discussion this winter/spring could sure feel free to do so.

If someone would like to lead a group, could you pick a book or movie, choose a time that is convenient for you and then let Pastor Phil know? We can put a sign-up sheet in the narthex niche and send out word through email and the web site.

These groups have provided a wonderful opportunity for people to get acquainted with others they do not know very well and to explore issues about their beliefs in a respectful setting.

Scripture and Scones - Wednesdays from 8 to 9 a.m.
Every week, a group of folks gather in our library to look at the Scripture texts that will be used the following Sunday. These are often very lively discussions -- and the baked goods and coffee aren't bad either. Anyone is welcome to join at any time.
