Sunday, November 24, we will celebrate Transition Sunday during worship at 8:15 and 10 am. These services at Memorial UCC are tied to the German tradition of Toten Fest in the Evangelical and Reformed roots of our congregation. Toten Fest translates as “Festival of the Celebration of the Dead.” On this last Sunday of the church’s calendar year, we will remember through song and the lighting of candles, members of the church that have passed away in the previous year – as well as lift up the many other transitions people in the congregation have experienced: the birth of a child, a new school, job change, wedding, a move – acknowledging that change brings a range of feelings into our lives. We will also be observing the Transgender Day of Remembrance, naming the transgender victims of murder in the U.S. in 2019.
